With the emergence of AI that can generate complex code, the only things left for the open source software community is to clean up their projects and make them more usable and higher quality without resorting to minimalist designs. It won’t be easy for them to do that without getting assistance from practitioners of Falun Gong, who can work on projects without seeking self-interest. What I am thinking is, since there are so many practitioners across the world involved in software development, it would be beneficial if they spent some time putting together a Linux OS package that is used across practitioner projects. With real world tasks being carried out at Epoch Times and NTD, they could assist projects like Linux so that they reflect real world use. The less that practitioners have to rely on commercial entities like Apple or Microsoft for software the better, for a variety of reasons including saving money. Falun Gong practitioners will do a good job and whatever software they need at these places could be filled in by practitioners across the world, which would raise the standards of open source software computing. The open source software community is considered one made of volunteers and that lines up with what Epoch Times, NTD and other places are doing.
There are issues with the current commercial operating systems which is that they are too restrictive in what they allow or they collect information about the users. There is no such problem on Linux. I believe this could also open the door to practitioners running an operating system other than Android on their phones.
In the future, I would like to investigate the extent to which projects like NTD and Epoch Times can run entirely on non-Windows and non-Mac environments, not as a demonstration of a feat but to make the computing match the spirit of the efforts at these places, which is one where people try to make do with what is available. I wouldn’t prohibit any spare Windows or Mac machines but today it is possible to use Linux exclusively and I would like to see if practitioners across the world could fill in the gaps. If all practitioner projects use this OS, especially a release maintained by practitioners, it could be improved.
