Shen Yun

Purpose And Promotion

Shen Yun revives 5000 of years of ancient Chinese culture. I would like to point out that that is a very long time in history– 50 centuries.

I am not involved in the production of the show, and I have only ever come up to the gate of Dragon Springs (the headquarters of Shen Yun, located near New York City). I am still Special Coordinator all the same. There are 100 million practitioners worldwide, most of them in mainland China, so only a tiny number are involved in projects like Shen Yun (which is directed by Master Li Hongzhi) or Epoch Times (which is operated by practitioners exclusively and not directed by Master Li Hongzhi). Epoch Times and NTD are given the blessing to promote Shen Yun, which is the gold standard for all practitioners who wish to work on projects on their own. I can only hope that Epoch Times and NTD aspire to do better and become worthy of promoting Shen Yun. I want them to be worthy of their pages in the program booklet.

Though many Falun Dafa practitioners have promoted the show without following instructions to limit their efforts to those who most likely would see it– specifically the upper class and those with an interest in performing arts– it is nevertheless nice for anyone to find out that something positive is in the world. I hope that’s what you take away from the posters and promotions, at least, if you don’t have an interest in attending that type of show. In fact, if you aren’t of that cultural background, I have found that it is better that you don’t attend, because it might not be a fit for what you are familiar with and you might feel like you didn’t get a good deal. That’s why it’s really important for practitioners to follow Master Li Hongzhi’s instructions and only promote the show among the upper class and those who would like to see performing arts. I think, also, that it is best if you start out eager to see it and it clicked with you as soon as you saw the poster and watched the promotional videos.

How about me? I have seen it several different times, spread across several different years, but that’s my job. Would I have seen it as a non-practitioner? It is hard to say. Though I have seen shows like that in the past and attended classical music performances, maybe now, later in life, I would start attending them. I don’t know, as I have practiced Falun Dafa since 2009 and I am now 43.
